Qualifying Exam Preparation and Writing Workshop In-Person

This workshop aims to help students as they prepare to write and defend their Qualifying Exam proposals.  The session will feature a discussion of how to formulate a testable hypothesis and why it is so important to articulate why you are focused on your particular question.  We'll also demonstrate the best ways to find and organize information to develop the background section of your proposal.  Participants will then work on writing their own Specific Aims and Significance sections to put use these ideas and tools into practice.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants should come with a hypothesis and to learn how to substantiate that hypothesis and build a scientific argument.

This workshop is co-hosted by the Center for Professional Development and Edward G. Miner Library, and will be co-taught by Dr. Elaine Smolock, Scientist and Writing Specialist from the CPD, Dr. Helene McMurray, Scientist and Informatics Specialist, and Ms. Linda Hasman, Librarian and Reference Management Specialist, both from Miner Library.

The workshop will be held in the Northeastern Conference Room (1-9525/9535) in the Medical Center.
