This is the first in a series of "meet-ups", informal workshops that will introduce participants to the R programming environment through use of an online R teaching tool, the SWIRL (http://swirlstats.com).  SWIRL has multiple modules covering beginner, intermediate and advanced operations in R.  During this session, we will start with some of the basics of programming in R.  Participants will be encouraged to work at their own pace and interact with the organizer and other participants for help and support as they learn.

Over the course of the semester, through monthly sessions, we will work through SWIRL modules on R Programming (basics), Open Intro (very basic introduction to statistics, data analysis, and data visualization), Data Analysis (basic ideas in statistics and data visualization), and Mathematical Biostatistics (one- and two-sample t-tests, power, and sample size).  Sessions are scheduled for the last Friday of each month from 3-5 PM in Miner's Data Visualization Classroom.

NOTE: You may utilize our computers, Microsoft Surface Pro 3 machines running Windows, or bring your own device to the session.  Please install an up-to-date version of R for your computer environment (Mac, Windows or LINUX).  Participants should also install R Studio, a wrap-around that adds functionality to the basic R environment.  Instructions on how to do this can be found on the SWIRL website (http://swirlstats.com/students.html).
